Ayyan’s passport case: IHC adjourns hearing for one week

ISLAMABAD (Staff Report) – The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday adjourned the hearing in a case faced by fashion model Ayyan Ali for one week.

The IHC bench headed by Justice Athar Minallah remarked that the court will dismiss the petition in the next hearing if Customs counsel Farhat Abbas Lodhi did not show up in the court.

The court said that it will also decide whether or not the case about the model’s passport was maintainable for further hearing.

On Dec 1, 2015, a customs court in Rawalpindi returned the passport of money-laundering suspect Ayyan Ali after she submitted two surety bonds worth Rs1 million each, and a document of personal guarantee in the court.

The model appeared before the customs court judge Justice Rana Aftab Ahmed Khan, and presented the required documents, which were accepted by the court.

Ayyan was arrested by customs officials from Benazir Bhutto International Airport, Islamabad on March 14 after $506,800 were recovered from her luggage. She was released from Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi after almost four months in detention.
