MADINAH — Tensions continue unabated across Saudi Arabia and now Saudi-led Coalition forces announced that its air defenses had intercepted and destroyed a cruise missile in the Madinah region, raising fresh security concerns near one of Islam’s holiest cities.
In a statement, Saudi coalition spokesperson Major General Turki Al-Maliki confirmed interception and destruction of a cruise missile in the Madinah region.

The coalition has not disclosed where the missile was launched from, what its intended target was, or whether the incident caused casualties or property damage. No party had officially claimed responsibility at the time of the reported announcement.
The reported interception has drawn particular attention because Madinah is home to the Prophet Muhammad SAW, one of Islam’s most sacred sites. However, the coalition has not stated that the mosque itself was targeted, and no confirmed information has established the missile’s intended destination.
The announcement also comes amid heightened regional tensions and a series of reported missile and drone incidents affecting Saudi Arabia in recent weeks.
Earlier this week, the coalition announced that it had intercepted and destroyed a drone in the kingdom’s Eastern Province, saying that multiple aerial threats were being reported on the same day.
The latest development follows a September 29 incident in which the coalition accused Yemen’s Houthi movement of launching a drone attack against the Taibah Power Distribution Station, a facility that supplies electricity to the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah.
The coalition said the attack damaged a transformer but did not disrupt electricity supplies. The Houthis denied the accusation.
The earlier incident intensified concerns over the security of infrastructure serving the holy city, although no evidence presented in the current missile announcement establishes a connection between the two incidents.

In recent weeks, missile and drone incidents have also been reported in the vicinity of Riyadh, Khamis Mushait, Najran and Jazan. Some threats were reportedly intercepted, while debris from other incidents caused minor damage.
The pattern of reported incidents has heightened concerns about the potential for the conflict involving Yemen to spill over further into Saudi territory.
On the other hand, Houthis denied carrying out attack against Saudi Arabia on Thursday. Houthi spokesperson Yahya Saree also reportedly rejected the claim concerning the interception of a cruise missile in the Madinah region.
The conflicting accounts leave key questions unanswered, including the missile’s origin, the circumstances surrounding the reported interception and whether the incident can be independently verified.
