KARACHI – The Pakistan Post has paid tribute to the celebrated German-Pakistani doctor, Dr Ruth Pfau, by unveiling a postage stamp in her name.
The department has issued a stamp of Rs 8 denomination following the directions of Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to honour Pfau, who dedicated her to fight leprosy in Pakistan.
In November, the prime minister had also authorised the State Bank of Pakistan to issue 50,000 coins of Rs50 each in recognition of her services for the people of Pakistan.
Dr Ruth Pfau, who is commonly known as ‘Mother Teresa’ of Pakistan for her extensive battle against leprosy, passed away on August 10, 2017 at the age of 87 after a long illness.
Dr Pfau was laid to rest after a well-deserved state funeral. She is the second person to be accorded a state funeral in 29 years as earlier it was offered for late humanitarian Abdul Sattar Edhi in 2016.
