ABU DHABI – Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday officially launched the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the first Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi, home to over three million people of Indian origin, as part of his three-nation tour to Palestine, Oman and the UAE.
Modi witnessed the groundbreaking ceremony which was live-streamed to the Dubai Opera House where the prime minister was interacting with the Indian community.
He thanked the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on behalf of 1.25 billion Indians for the construction of the grand temple, being built on land by the city’s ruler.
“I believe this temple will not be only unique in terms of architecture and splendour, but will also give a message of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ to people across the world,” he said.

Modi arrived in Abu Dhabi on Saturday. This is Modi’s second visit to UAE since he became the Prime Minister.
The temple, to be built on 55,000 square metres of land, will be hand-carved by Indian temple artisans and assembled in UAE, the Hindustan Times reported. It will be completed by 2020.
Currently, there are two Hindu temples and one gurudwara in Dubai.
