PM Abbasi compares Pakistan s success with global defeat against terrorism

ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Thursday said that Pakistan played a lead role in the hectic war against terrorism on its land.

Addressing the closing ceremony of an event organised by Global Counteterrorims Forum (GCTF) in Islamabad, the premier said that Pakistan won the war against the menace but the world has to face the defeat in this war.

He said the country paid a heavy price for it as it lost its politicians including Benazir Bhutto, the slain leader of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), children in APS attack and security personnel. Public, security forces and politicians jointly

He reiterated that the country fought against militants on its land, using own resources, adding that Pakistan also suffered the economic setback during the war.

The prime minister asserted that there are no safe havens for terrorists in Pakistan, a claim made by US President Donald Trump last year while revealing his South Asia strategy.

Abbasi said that endeavours undertaken by Pakistan to eradicate the terrorism should be appreciated. He added that the country faced the challenges and now it is on the path of development.

No country need peace in Afghanistan more than Pakistan, the premier said, adding that the Afghan issues can only be resolved through dialogue.

Earlier, Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif addressing the ceremony emphasised on a need to work for the sustainable development.

The foreign minister further said that Pakistan’s success against terrorism is helping the country realise it’s vision of democracy.
