ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan on Thursday hit out at Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif after the former showered praises on army chief publicly for the first time.
He linked the chief minister’s admiration for Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa to a job application as Shehbaz Sharif is most likely to be a candidate for the slot of prime minister from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in upcoming elections
The PTI chairman tweeted, “Shehbaz Sharif’s sudden praise for the COAS sounded more like a job application!”.
On Wednesday, Shehbaz Sharif said that efforts being made by Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa to protect national interests must be respected and honoured.
Sharif, who is also president of embattled Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), stated this while talking to reporters at the Kidney and Liver Transplant Institute. The chief minister said that he had found the army chief professional and straightforward when he had a meeting with the former.

It is for the first time that the PML-N’s president openly showered praises on the COAS, while some of his party members have been accusing the military establishment of the crisis facing the Sharif family.
Shehbaz Sharif reiterated, “The civilian and military authorities must work together to counter the challenges facing Pakistan”.
Responding to a question, the Punjab CM said that he had read news about the ‘Bajwa Doctrine’ but was not much aware of it beyond them.
Armed forces rendered sacrifices to ensure the country’s defence and to weed out terrorism, Shehbaz Sharif said, adding that passion of the forces should be hailed.
