NAB Lahore given helicopter to transport Nawaz, Maryam to Adiala Jail

ISLAMABAD – The caretaker government has allowed National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to use a helicopter for transporting the ousted Prime Minister and his daughter to Islamabad upon their return to Pakistan on Friday.

Shahzad Saleem, DG NAB Lahore, had requested for the provision of a helicopter to the chairman of the anti-graft buster for shifting the convicts to Adiala jail in order to avoid any untoward situation.

The NAB chief had later forwarded the matter to the interim government, which accepted the request, local media reported.

According to the letter, a rally will be held to welcome the father-daughter duo which might hinder the process of their arrest, necessitating the use of a helicopter.

The preparations for arrest come after an accountability court handed a 10-year sentence and £8 million (Rs1.29 billion) to Pakistan’s former prime minister in a corruption reference pertaining to Sharif family’s Avenfield apartment in London, UK on Friday.

Sharif’s daughter, Maryam Nawaz, has also been sentenced to seven years in jail for forgery and making assets through illegal sources in the landmark decision. She has been ordered to pay a fine of £2 million (Rs320 million).
