ISLAMABAD – Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar remarked on Monday that he was unsure whether Naya Pakistan promised by the ruling regime would be established or not.
During the hearing of a case regarding the disposal of wastewater in river Ravi on Monday, the top judge observed that the water was being poured into the Ravi river instead of utilizing the water filtration system.
Provincial Minister for Housing, Urban Development and Public Health Engineering Mian Mehmood-ur-Rasheed appeared before a two-member bench at the Lahore registry.
When the top judge asked Rasheed who was in power in Punjab, he replied that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf was at the helm of affairs in the province.
‘Naya Pakistan is ruling Punjab,’ Rasheed responded.
Upon this, the top judge observed that he was not sure whether Naya Pakistan would be established or not.
He continued that the provincial departments were shifting blame away from each other, however, the issue at hand was crucial.
‘Water filtration should be deployed on an emergency basis,’ remarked the judge.
The Chief Justice directed that a committee should be formed and a report should be furnished before the court regarding the water filtration arrangement within a week.
He adjourned the hearing of the case following the exchange with the provincial minister.
Let it be known that the ruling PTI brands its version of enlightened and progressive Pakistan as Naya Pakistan, however, the top judge seems to be dissatisfied with the prospects of its establishment.
