RAWALPINDI – At least one person was injured when Pakistani and Indian border troops exchanged fire in different sectors near the Line of Control here on Monday.
According to a local police official, 60-year-old Mohammad Din Mir was injured by the splinters of a mortar shell in the Digwar sector of Haveli district, where shelling started at 9am.
‘They are using mortars and the shelling is continuing intermittently,’ the police official said.
According to Poonch’s Deputy Commissioner Raja Tahir Mumtaz, Indian troops also targeted the villages of Chirikot, Nakar Kot, Kakota and Dhiroti Polas in the neighbouring Abbaspur sector of district Poonch.
He went on and maintained that Indian forces used arms but fortunately no casualty was reported.
‘The exact situation will, however, be clear only after the shelling stops or subsides,’ he added.
The exchange of fire follows unprovoked firing by India that left one person critically injured on Saturday.
18-year-old Attique Qureshi was hit by shelling at the Dhiroti Polas village but in a tragic turn of events, he succumbed to his injuries on Sunday night.
