ISLAMABAD (Staff Report) – Pakistan has expressed extreme disappointment over the recent statement of Indian Defence Minister, saying the blame game over the Pathankot attack was highly unfortunate.
During weekly news briefing, Foreign Office spokesman Nafees Zakaria said that Pakistan had immediately condemned the terrorist attack on Indian airbase and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif also contacted his Indian counterpart.
Indian Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, in his statement, had said the terrorists involved in Pathankot airbase attack had backing from Pakistan.
Responding to a question, he said that Pakistan registered an FIR over Pathankot attack and a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) was also formed for in-depth investigation. Pakistan believes in cooperation between countries to counter the menace of terrorism, he added.
Commenting about investigation of Mumbai attacks, he said that the case was in court, however the government is still awaiting solid evidences from India.
About the meeting between Advisor on Foreign Affair Sartaj Aziz and US Secretary of State John Kerry, the spokesman said that sixth round of strategic dialogue between Pakistan and United States was successful.
When asked about American demand to cut short the nuclear stockpile of Pakistan, Zakariya said that Pakistan is a responsible nuclear power and its nukes are aimed at state’s security only.
The spokesman said that the Quadilateral Coordination Group involving Pakistan, Afghanistan, China and the United States is making efforts for peace and reconciliation in Afghanistan.
