ISLAMABAD – The accountability court on Tuesday adjourned hearing of the corruption cases against members of Sharif family till 2pm today as their counsel was absent.
Judge Mohammad Bashir resumed the hearing as accused – former prime minister Nawaz sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain (retd) Safdar – reached the court.
At today’s hearing, the judge would issue schedule to record statements of two of the witness from foreign country through video link, besides recording statements of other prosecution witnesses. The court has recorded statements of 24 witnesses out of total 39 in three references.
The court has also summoned five more witnesses today.
It is to mention here that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) filed three references against Nawaz and his family in light of the Supreme Court’s July 28 judgment in the Panama Papers case.
The three references include the London flats, Al-Azizia Steel Mills and offshore companies including Flagship Investment Ltd.
Earlier, the court accepted a supplementary reference filed by the NAB against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and four others in the Avenfield properties case and claimed that it included new evidence against Sharif family. Around seven more witnesses, including two from the United Kingdom, have been added in the reference.
Forensic expert Robert Radley and a close relative of Panamagate Joint Investigative Team head Wajid Zia are the witnesses in the case.
