I do not consider Ayaz Sadiq NA speaker from this day: Imran Khan

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan Thursday announced that he did not consider Ayaz Sadiq the Speaker of of the National Assembly and instead of “Mr Speaker” he would address him as “Ayaz Sadiq” from now on.

Imran Khan’s statement was later expunged from the NA proceeding by MNA Pervez Malik, who was chairing the session of the lower house of the parliament.

Addressing the NA session in Islamabad, Imran Khan said: “Ayaz Sadiq has proved himself inclined towards Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz by rejecting the references against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif without any explanation and forwarding the references against me and Jahangir Tareen to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).”

He said that Ayaz Sadiq should have been present in the National Assembly session to answer my questions over his credibility. “He has lost his neutral position in the eyes of the opposition parties,” the PTI chief added.

Following the speech of Imran Khan, all of the members of the opposition parties in the National Assembly staged a walkout and boycotted the remaining session of the NA.

Speaking in the National Assembly, Imran Khan said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is trying his best to save hide the corruption and that he has lost the mandate to rule the country.

He went on to say that people of Pakistan were losing faith in the democratic system due to undemocratic practices of the PML-N government. Since the publication of the Panama Papers, every person whose name appeared in the leaks had explained his position, but Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was not ready to do so, he said.

“We are seeking an investigation into the allegations against Nawaz Sharif and he is cutting the red tapes in different cities of the country. We have exhausted all the options and have decided to demand justice by protests on the roads,” he added.

Responding to the accusations against him, the PTI chairman said “My name did not appear in the Panama Papers, but still I present myself for accountability, the government should come forwards and hold me accountable for any misgivings.”

At one point, he also mentioned former British Prime Minister David Cameron, who had presented the details of his assets and taxes in the parliament after his name surfaced in the Panama Papers leak.

Imran Khan said that there was a clear contrast in the statements of Nawaz Sharif and other family members on the questions pertaining to their flats in London and that the matter must be probed.

Earlier this week, NA Speaker Ayaz Sadiq rejected all of the references filed by the opposition parties for disqualification of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif over the revelations made in the Panama Papers.

On the other hand, the Speaker forwarded a reference filed by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz for disqualification of PTI chairman Imran Khan to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) without any clear remarks of acceptance or rejection.

The reference would now be examined by the ECP and a decision will be given within 90 days.
