Nine school children injured as earthquake jolts K-P

ISLAMABAD – An earthquake has jolted the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with tremors felt in other parts of the country on Wednesday morning.

Initial reports suggest the earthquake magnitude has been recorded at 5.5 on the Richter scale, with 12 kilometres in depth and its epicentre was 20km North-West Bannu. The tremors were felt at 8:25 AM for 15 to 20 seconds.

At least ten children were injured after a stampede occurred in three-storey Government Model School near Tankhi Bazaar in Bannu. The injured have been shifted to a nearby hospital.

The panic-stricken children rushed out of the three-story building with taking to the stairs while few jumped out from second, third floor. The injured have been moved to District Headquarters Hospital.

Tremors were felt in Swat, Hangu, Malakand, Kot Momin, Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), Peshawar, Nowshera, Kohat and other cities.

Terrified people came out from their houses as the earthquake jolted KP.
