One killed, two injured as bridge on Kabul River collapses in Charsadda

CHARSADDA – One man was killed while two others were injured when a bridge built on the Kabul River collapsed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Charsadda district on Saturday.

According to Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Sayam, the tragic incident occurred when a 10-wheeler  truck carrying 1,600 bags of cement was crossing the bridge constructed over Kabul River at Sardaryab.

The truck was on its way from Peshawar to Charsadda and fell into the river following the collapse.

The injured were shifted to district headquarters hospital, Charsadda.

Hospital sources said that all three men involved in the accident were traveling in the truck, although they are yet to be identified.

Following the collapse of a section of the bridge, traffic was diverted to the one-way road of the bridge causing snarl ups.

The bridge, which connects Peshawar with Charsadda, was built in 1937 circa and was in a dilapidated condition.
