LAHORE (Staff Report) – At least five people were killed and many others injured in Pakistan as a strong earthquake of 6.6 magnitude struck parts of Pakistan and the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border in the Hindukush region on Sunday.
According to US Geological Survey, an earthquake with magnitude 6.6 occurred near Feyzabad, Afghanistan. The quake struck at 3.58 pm and went on for several minutes.
Its epicentre lay 39 km from Ashkasham in Afghanistan. The impact was strongest across a 200 km area. At least three people have been reported killed whereas several others have been injured due to the jolts.At least two died when tremors caused a landslide on the Karakar mountain range connecting Swat and Buner.
Two others passed away in Shahqadar Shahbaz Khan Korona of district Charsadda when a boundary wall collapsed.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has directed all federal, civil, military and provincial rescue and relief agencies to mobilise all resources to ensure safety of citizens in the wake of earthquake.
He directed all the agencies to move out with their resources to find out the affected people and ensure immediate rescue activities and assistance wherever required.
The PM further directed the relevant quarters to keep him updated on the developing situation.
National Disaster Management Authority has asked the people to be cautious in wake of likely aftershocks.
