Interior ministry moved to put US diplomat's name on no-fly list
ISLAMABAD - A written request has been sent to Ministry of Interior to place the name of a US diplomat, who ran his vehicle on a motorbike killing a man in Islamabad, on the no-fly list.

Inspector General of Police Dr Sultan Azam Temuri confirmed the development while talking to an English daily on Monday.

The diplomat, identified as US Defence and Air Attaché Col Joseph Emanuel Hall, has been booked on criminal charges, including murder by mistake or rash or negligent driving.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has also made arrangements to bar the accused from leaving Pakistan.

The IG further said that the police were considering canceling the driving license of Hall, which was issued by the Islamabad Traffic Police.

A car carrying the American diplomat hit a motorcycle in Islamabad on Saturday afternoon, killing one man, Ateeq on the spot and injuring another.

Colonel Emmanuel was driving the car when the accident took place in Islamabad on April 7. The police registered a case against the American diplomat at the Kohsar Police Station on behalf of victim's father, Mohammed Idrees.

On Sunday, the Foreign Office on Sunday summoned American Ambassador to Pakistan David Hale to lodge a formal protest against the incident. According to a statement, the Foreign Ministry said that “justice will take its course” in accordance with local and international laws.

It said Hale expressed his sympathy and sadness over the loss of life and assured cooperation in the investigation.
