ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan on Tuesday declared the year 2015 the election year saying the nation wants to see a change in the country’s political set up.
In a direct reference to what he described as “an underhand deal”, Khan said the nation does not want the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and Pakistan People’s Party’s politics of “muk-muka”.
The two largest political groups brought nothing to Parliament, but corrupt leaders and politicians through the 2013 general elections, he alleged, while adding they should be dealt with under Article 6 of the Constitution.
“The democracy died on the very day when the ruling party and the opposition shook hands,” Khan remarked while addressing a news conference here. The two parties, he added, were just trying to befool the masses.
Khan recalled that the PTI had called for declaration of assets by all the parliamentarians, but regretted the committee, which was constituted one and a half years later, has not even called its maiden meeting yet.
To a media query, Khan said his party lawmakers were offered millions of rupees for Senate elections but they just kicked those offers.
Khan, in response to another question about unanimous nomination of PPP leader Raza Rabbani as Senate chairman, said Rabbani is a politician of repute, but “we still have to evaluate his performance as chief of the Upper House of Parliament”.
Continuing his diatribe against PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Khan said the former still had his Rs60 million in Swiss bank accounts, while the latter has not yet been queried for his corruption cases in National Accountability Bureau courts.
He derided Nawaz Sharif was trying to lure foreign investors when he himself was investing his money in other countries.
To another question, the PTI chief said at least seven million fake votes were cast during the 2013 general elections. He said after NADRA’s forensic examination of the ballot in the NA-122 and NA-118, his party would call for formation of a judicial commission to prove that the ballot had been skewed in the two constituencies. And if a judicial commission is not made, the PTI will take to the streets, he went on to say.
Khan also said he would try to meet NADRA chairman so that the facts could be brought to the fore.
Earlier, Imran Khan welcomed the newcomers to PTI folds.
