ISLAMABAD – Fulfilling his words of cutting expenses at all levels, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran is likely to wear an old sherwani while taking oath as the prime minister of Pakistan on August 18, a big day of his political life.
Following election triumph, an order was given to renowned tailoring shop, Jalil Tailors and Drapers, which is famous stitching the ceremonial dress for previous rulers of the country, for a sherwani for Imran Khan.
However, the order was later revised to stitching a waistcoat for the PTI chief but later it was also cancelled, a leading English daily reported.
It was observed on the inaugural session of the lower house of the parliament that Khan borrowed waistcoat of a photographer for a National Assembly card picture.

PTI sources told the newspaper that Khan would clad white shalwar qameez and sherwani while taking the oath following the tradition of founder of Pakistan Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah. They added that the prime minister in waiting will, however, wear old sherwani by breaking the tradition of stitching a new one.
Jailil Talior and Drapers, which had stitched the ceremonial dress for previous rulers of the country, including General Ziaul Haq, Ghulam Ishaq Khan, Nawaz Sharif and General Musharraf, has confirmed that the order for the sherwani has been cancelled by the PTI as Imran Khan wants austerity to prevail all levels.
Jalil, who owns the shop, said that they have just received an order for tailoring a gown for the speaker after the July 25 elections. He, however, added that the bridal sherwani of Imran Khan on his marriage with Reham Khan was stitched by them.
