KARACHI: The Sindh government has imposed a one-day ban on pillion riding and the use of ‘heli-cams’ for media coverage as part of the security arrangements for Youm-e-Ali going to be observed tomorrow (June 17).
The martyrdom of Hazrat Ali (AS) is observed on 21st of Ramazan every year.
The government issued two separate notices barring pillion riding and uses of heli-cams. The ban will come into force from Friday midnight in Karachi and Hyderabad in order to control the law and order situation.
The pillion riding ban will not affect “women, children below the age of 12 years, senior citizens, journalists, personnel of law enforcement agencies/ security agencies in uniform and employees of the essential services,” the notification added.
Sindh police had sent a letter to the provincial government seeking a ban on pillion riding and mobile phone services on the occasion on Youm-e-Ali (RA).
The police stated in the letter that there are credible reports of terrorist attacks in the major cities on the occasion of Youm-e-Ali.
