KARACHI – Pakistan People’s Party chairperson Bilawal Bhutto has announced that his father and former president Asif Ali Zardari will return to Pakistan on December 23 (Friday).
Addressing a press conference in Karachi on Sunday, the PPP chairperson said that his father will return to the country before the death anniversary of his mother Benazir Bhutto. Bilawal said Zardari’s doctors had permitted him to make the trip to Pakistan and he would land in Karachi on Friday.
Bilawal also reiterated that Zardari’s return will facilitate implementation of the four demands from the government earlier set forth by the party.
He also talked about Panama Leaks case and said that he would have offered himself for accountability had his name been uncovered in the leaked documents of Mossack Fonseca. Bilawal said that the PPP did not want to indulge itself in ‘drama’ revolving around the Qatari prince and his letter.
Bilawal had earlier demanded that the government meet his demands, during a gathering at Bilawal House organized to celebrate the 49th anniversary of PPP.
The PPP wants the enactment of the Panama Papers Inquiries Bill, 2016; implementation of the all parties’ conference’s recommendations pertaining to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC); a parliamentary committee for oversight of the National Action Plan and appointment of a full-time foreign minister.
Asi Ali Zardari had left Pakistan for Dubai last year, a couple of days after he had made a hard-hitting speech against political rivals and, what seemed to many, against the military leadership.
Ever since then, Bhutto scion and PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has been the public face of the party, organizing various public rallies throughout Pakistan.
