ISLAMABAD (Staff Report) – The supreme court of Pakistan on Wednesday upheld a decision of Balochistan High Court (BHC) that suspended special the licenses granted to Arab Royals to hunt endangered Houbara Bustard in Balochistan.
The apex court also moved to ban hunting of the bird.

The order has been issued by a three member bench in a plea filed by federal government.
During the hearing Attorney General of Pakistan argued that Houbara Bustard was not an endangered bird. Upon which Justice Qazi Faiz Essa remarked this did not mean that government starts issuing licenses to hunt the bird.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Jawad S. Khawaja also ruled that hunting of Houbara Bustard has been declared illegal by Balochistan’s provincial government and the High Court has also given a verdict in this regard. Federal government cannot interfere in the provincial matters according to eighteenth amendment, he said.
