ISLAMABAD – An accountability court ordered on Monday to announce a joint verdict in the two remaining corruption cases against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his sons.
Judge Arshad Malik resumed hearing of Al-Aziza Steel Mill and Flagship Investment after former premier was shifted to the federal judicial complex to attend the hearing from Adiala Jail.
As the hearing was started, Nawaz’s counsel Khawaja Harris pleaded the judge to announce a joint verdict in the remaining cases filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) against Sharif family in the light of the Panamagate verdict.
Harris added that the accountability court II had also decided to announce a joint verdict in all the three references but it, later, declared the verdict in the Avenfield case.
The remaining cases were then transferred by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) after the verdict in a case was announced separately, he maintained.
The court approving the Harris’ request ordered to announce a joint verdict in the two cases. It adjourned the hearing till August 27.
The former premier, who is serving his term in Adiala jail following his conviction in the Avenfield case, the third corruption case, was brought to the court in an armoured vehicle amid tight security. His daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captian (retd) Safdar were also sentenced to jail in this case.
During the last hearing on August 15, the court recorded the statement of investigating officer Mehboob Alam in the Al-Azizia case and he had been directed to continue the statement on next hearing, Aug 20.
