LAHORE – Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar on Saturday expressed anger over the poor standards of law education and formed a committee for reforms at private law colleges.
The chief justice, while hearing a case regarding affiliation of substandard colleges at Lahore Registry, said that such colleges will not be allowed to run. He also barred all public universities from granting affiliation to new law colleges due to poor standards.
Questioning the quality of the lawyers, he remarked: “We do not want lawyers who run paan shops in the morning and later get law degrees”.
The Supreme Court has constituted a committee headed by Advocate Hamid Khan for bringing reforms in this sector. Justice Saqib said that the Supreme Court wanted to put the law colleges in order within six weeks.
The chief justice summoned a report regarding affiliation of private colleges and ordered vice-chancellors of all universities to submit affidavits.
