PESHAWAR – The Ameer of Chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F, Maulana Fazlur Rehman was appointed as the chief of Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal on Tuesday, months before the country would hold General Elections.
Former lawmaker and senior leader of the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), Liaqat Baloch announced the decision to revive MMA and appointment of Maulana Fazlur Rehman as the president following which Fazl congratulated the entire nation on the revival of the alliance, for which the religious factions had toiled hard.
‘We have made way to the beginning of a new era, we hope to match the expectations of the nation,’ said the legislator.
He further announced to contest the upcoming general elections under the joint platform adding that all parties in the newly formed MMA would be given equal importance for decision making. He also stated that MMA was in favor of giving equal rights to minorities in the country
Speaking on the occasion, JI Chief Siraj-ul-Haq said that the MMA had begun its journey with a new resolve and it would represent the citizens on all platforms in the country.
‘The restoration of MMA for the protection of the Islamic identity of the country, its safety, and security is welcome news for democratic stability. Running the country according to the constitution and Islamic principles is necessary,’ declared Sirajul Haq at the press conference.
Besides Fazl, Liaquat Baloch was also appointed as the general secretary of MMA who announced that the central workers’ convention will be held in the first week of April.
The decision to revive MMA was made in November last year.
