UNITED NATIONS – The UN General Assembly on Tuesday unanimously adopted a Pakistan-sponsored resolution reaffirming the international community’s continued support for people’s right to self-determination as a fundamental human right.
Pakistan’s Ambassador to the UN Maleeha Lodhi announced on Twitter the record 85 countries co-sponsored the resolution. The 193-member Assembly’s Third Committee, which deals with social, humanitarian and cultural issues, has adopted the resolution.

Lodhi further said, “Cosponsorship by 83 countries of Pakistan ‘s resolution on self-determination was reaffirmation of the international community’s continued support for people’s right to self-determination as a fundamental human right”.

She said that movements for self-determination in Indian-Occupied Kashmir and Palestine will gain momentum after the resolution.
The adoption of the resolution on self-determination sends a message to people struggling against the foreign occupation that they are not helpless in their efforts, she said.
Lodi added that promoting the people’s right to self-determination was a part of the UN’s basic principals.
India forcibly occupied the land of Kashmir in 1947 and denied the right of self-determination. People of the occupied land are continuously struggling against the Indian aggression.
Indian forces have so far killed thousands of Kashmiris since the invasion. Numbers of people also suffered injuries as some lost their eyes in the pellet gun attack.
