ISLAMABAD – Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi Friday night left for the United States to attend the 73rd UN General Assembly’s annual session.
The foreign minister will be leading the Pakistani delegation, comprising Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua and others, at the session going to start from September 18.
In the biggest official gathering of countries, Qureshi will present Pakistan’s stance on various issues with special focus on Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir, besides highlighting atrocities of the occupying forces.
He would hold talks with his counterparts of different countries on the sidelines of the sessions, besides holding a meeting with US administration.
A key meeting was expected to be held between Qureshi and his Indian counterpart Sushma Swaraj as it was decided by both countries. However, New Delhi backtracked from holding a meeting with Islamabad in the US citing what Pakistan’s foreign office termed as “unconvincing reasons”.

Earlier, it was reported that Prime Minister Imran Khan will not go to the US to attend the session as he wanted to concentrate on country’s economy.
