Dr Babar Awan formally joins PTI after resigning as senator

ISLAMABAD – Former Pakistan People’s Party leader and Senator Dr Babar Awan formally joined the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Friday.

He also resigned from the Senate before joining the Imran Khan party.

On Thursday, Imran Khan had announced he would also request Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmad to join his party.

Babar Awan served as minister for law and justice during the previous tenure of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP). However, he parted ways with the party following his differences with Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari.

Awan had recently got close to the PTI chief, becoming one of his counsels in the Panamagate case.

Imran Khan and other senior PTI leaders were invited to an Iftar party being hosted by Awan on Friday.

Earlier this month, PPP’s Firdous Ashiq Awan also joined the PTI after she developed differences with the PPP leadership.
