ISLAMABAD – Two Pakistani teenagers, accused of facilitating the Uri attack, will soon be released, according to reports in Indian media.
A closure report for the two Pakistani students has been filed in the trial court by National Investigation Agency of India. The Indian media stated on Sunday that the two boys’ involvement in the Uri attack could not be proved, which is why they will be sent to Pakistan as a goodwill gesture.
Ahsan Khurshid and Faisal Hussain, students of Class 10 from Muzaffarabad, have been detained in India for more than six months. They were arrested three days after the attack in Uri in September 2016 for their alleged role as ‘guides’ for the attackers.
On September 24, the Indian media reported that the two boys from Muzaffarabad were arrested in Uri region on the Indian side of LoC – which divides the disputed region of Kashmir – three days after the militant attack that left 19 soldiers dead and 17 others injured.
However, on Sunday, the Indian media stated that the two boys’ involvement in the Uri attack could not be proved, which is why they will be sent to Pakistan as a goodwill gesture. The Indian army has been informed about the case closure of the two teenagers.
Ahsan Khursheed, son of Mohammed Khursheed, hails from Khilyana -a village near the LoC in Chakothi sector; while Faisal Hussain, son of Gul Akbar, belongs to Potta Jadgran, Komikote, some 25 kilometers from Muzaffarabbad.
Their families refute the Indian allegations and say the boys might have crossed the Line of control inadvertently.
The students of Class 10 in Shaheen Model School, Muzaffarabad, who are also close friends, possibly went on a trip to Pir Kanthi top close to the LoC on September 20.
Pir Kanthi is a scenic place located close to the Line of Control in Bagh district in Azad Kashmir. It is estimated to be 10,796 ft (3,291 m) above sea level.
