ISLAMABAD – National Accountability Bureau Chairman Justice (r) Javed Iqbal on Thursday directed the regional offices of the accountability watchdog to conduct public hearings every month for the redressal of grievances related to corruption.
The NAB chairman himself held a public hearing at the bureau’s headquarter in Islamabad today, keeping his promise that the last Thursday of every month would be dedicated for such purpose.
During today’s session, Justice (r) Javed Iqbal patiently listened to the complainants after which he directed the regional offices of NAB to organise the same public hearings between 2 to 4 PM on the last Thursday of every month.
According to a communique issued by the anti-graft regulator, the public hearings would help boost the public confidence in the bureau besides ensuring the resolution of corruption complaints.
“The NAB chairman has started taking pragmatic steps to weed out corruption and, in just a single month, the body has become vibrant, earning appreciation from all the segments of society” added the statement.
The NAB chief also directed his subordinates to computerise the complaints filed by the public and take them to the logical conclusion.
He also ordered the NAB officials to treat the complainants with politeness so that their self-respect remains intact.
It bears mentioning that soon after assuming the charge as NAB chief, Justice (r) Javed Iqbal had announced to arrange public complainants’ hearing (‘open kachery’) on monthly basis.
The first ‘open kachery’ was held on November 27th, where the NAB chief issued directives on spot for resolution of complaints.
NAB has asked complainants to remain punctual and bring complete applications along with their Computerized National Identity Cards.
