QUETTA – The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has launched a probe into alleged embezzlement of funds in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) police department, which is usually praised by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan for professionalism.
NAB Director-General KP Farmanullah said that the investigation has been launched after anti-graft watchdog’s chief Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal allowed it, reported Geo News.
A letter issued by the NAB stated that misappropriation of billions of rupees was made while procuring different items for the department, adding that the embezzlement happened during former KP Inspector General Nasir Khan Durrani’s tenure from 2013 to 2017.
The alleged corruption was made when equipment was bought for traffic police and furniture for Counter-Terrorism Department office was purchased, said the letter, adding that money was also minted during polio campaigns.
The accountability bureau claimed that fake bills of petrol were also created for embezzlement.
