Cantonment LB polls: ECP says 33 turnout recorded

ISLAMABAD (Staff Report) – Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday said that an overall turnout of 33% was recorded when as many as 610, 816 voters cast their vote local bodies elections conducted on April 25 in cantonment areas of the country.

ECP announced the official results of LB polls which stated that PMLN won 68 seats in cantonment boards, out of a total of 199 seats.

The second position was notched by the independent candidates with 55 seats, followed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) that could garner 42 seats and emerged as the second largest political party in the LB elections.

Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) bagged 19 seats, followed by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) with seven seats and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) with six.

ECP announced that 15 candidates were elected unopposed in 42 cantonment areas of the country.

Raja Jahan Daad received 6097, the most votes among all cantonment boards, in Rawalpindi whereas Multan’s Muhammad Aslam won by getting 159 votes only.

According to election commission total registered voters in cantonment areas has been recorded above 1.8 million.
