LAHORE – Analysts have termed the Kartarpur initiative as a good omen for regional peace, Pakistan is committed to normalizing the relations between two countries and the international community has appreciated Pakistan for taking this step.
Talking to Radio Pakistan, former Ambassador to India Arif Kamal on Thursday said the opening of Kartarpur Corridor will open a new chapter of cooperation and friendship between the two countries.
“India should realize that there is no option except negotiations to resolve all bilateral disputes between two countries,” he highlighted.
He said, “war is not a solution and any misadventure between two nuclear-armed states can result in a catastrophe.
“India and Pakistan are facing highest ratio of people living under the poverty line and it is need of the hour to alleviate poverty with mutual cooperation, he said, adding, it is highly important to resolve Kashmir dispute in accordance with the UN resolutions.”
Defense Analyst Brigadier, retired, Tipu Sultan added, “It is a great and appreciative step taken by Pakistan government which indicates Pakistan’s sincerity to move forward and improve bilateral ties between India and Pakistan.”
“Imran Khan has won the hearts of the Sikh community. Punjab on both sides of the border shares almost similar culture and Sikh community living in India has a religious affiliation with Pakistan,” an analyst said.
Both the governments should utilize its resources for poverty alleviation and welfare of the poor population, he urged.
Defense Analyst Dr. Muhammad Khan said that the poverty in the region can be alleviated by increasing trade activities between two countries.
“Positive engagements and people-to-people contacts between Islamabad and New Dehli are imperative to improve bilateral ties,” he mentioned.
The expert on International Relations Dr. Zafar Nawaz Jaspal, added, “This is a moral and diplomatic victory of Pakistan, which would project a positive image of the country at international level.
“It is a very positive step which indicates that all the institutions in Pakistan are on one page regarding regional peace and bridging gaps between Islamabad and New Delhi,” he concluded.
