Clash Between Student Groups At Quaid E Azam University Leaves 25 Injured

A violent clash between two student groups, the Punjabi Students Council and the Pashtun Students Council, erupted late at night on September 28 at Quaid-e-Azam University (QAU), resulting in 25 students being seriously injured.

According to the university administration, the conflict began around 10 p.m. near Hostel No. 5, when security guards informed the English Campus Manager, Nadeem Abbas, of a brawl taking place. Upon investigation, it was discovered that a Punjabi student, Muzammil Marwat, had been severely beaten by several members of the Punjabi Students Council at Karachi Heights, leading to serious head injuries.

Following this incident, tensions escalated, and around 70 to 80 students from the Punjabi Students Council, led by their chairman Rana Hassan, armed themselves with sticks and iron rods and gathered at Hostel No. 7.

Simultaneously, the Pashtun Students Council, under the leadership of their chairman Asad Toori, assembled around 300 students, also equipped with sticks and iron rods, near the New Cafeteria. Asad Toori addressed the crowd, and shortly after, they stormed Hostel No. 7, leading to a fierce confrontation that lasted for approximately 40 minutes.

Both groups engaged in a brutal fight, leaving 25 students from both sides injured. The university administration filed a formal complaint at the Secretariat Police Station, naming 380 students, including the leaders of both councils. An FIR (First Information Report) was registered under charges of attempted murder, criminal intimidation, and rioting, but no arrests have been made so far.

University authorities have condemned the violence and emphasized the need for strict disciplinary actions against those involved. The incident has raised concerns over campus safety, prompting calls for increased security measures to prevent such clashes in the future.
