ISLAMABAD – The accountability court in Islamabad has issued the detailed verdict of the Al-Azizia reference filed against members of the former ruling family by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
The verdict comprises 131 pages and outlines different aspects of the case and how the former prime minister failed to defend his position in the reference.
Accountability Court Judge Arshad Malik had sentenced supreme leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Nawaz Sharif to seven years in prison in Al Azizia case besides a hefty fine worth $25m; he was indicted under Section 9(a)(v) and Section 10 of the National Accountability Ordinance in the Al-Azizia reference.
The court also ordered to seize Al-Azizia and Hill Metal property and declared Sharif’s sons Hassan and Hussain absconders in the case that stemmed out of the probe into the Panama Papers.

The senior Sharif was, however, acquitted in Flagship reference.
The court had reserved judgment in both the references on December 19, 2018.
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has decided to file an appeal against the acquittal of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif in the Flagship Investment reference.
An accountability court has also accepted a plea filed by former prime minister Nawaz Sharif seeking approval to serve his term in Kot Lakhpat jail Lahore instead of Adiala jail.
