Saudi FM calls on Pakistani counterpart to discuss matters of mutual interest, Indian hostilities

ISLAMABAD – Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir arrived in Islamabad on Thursday on a day-long official visit and called on Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi at the Foreign Office.

During the meeting, matters of mutual interest, especially the recent escalation of tension between India and Pakistan was discussed. Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua and other officials of the foreign office also attended the moot.

The Saudi minister assured Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi of Saudi Arabia’s complete and overwhelming support towards solving the issues with India in a peaceful manner.

The Saudi official is visiting Pakistan on the directives of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

He is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Imran Khan as well as Chief of the Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

The minister will also discuss the prevailing law and order situation in the country as well as matters of mutual interest.

The Saudi foreign minister was scheduled to arrive in Islamabad last week, however, he had delayed his visit. The reason behind the change in the schedule was not stated.

Earlier, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman arrived in Pakistan on February 17 and signed multi-billion dollar deals with Pakistan.

Both the countries also signed seven memorandums in different fields including oil refining, LNG and mineral development fields.

Meanwhile, tensions between Pakistan and India escalated after more than 40 Indian paramilitary soldiers were killed on February 14 in occupied Kashmir.
