Sindh extends Rangers special powers for 90 days

KARACHI – The Sindh government has extended the special powers of the Rangers across the province, including Karachi for 90 days.

Sindh Home Department has issued a notification in this regard.

The notification said that “I am directed to convey the approval of the government of Sindh under Section-4 (2) of the Anti Terrorism Act, 1997 to entrust powers to Pakistan Rangers, Sindh in terms of Section-4 (3)(i), within Karachi division to discharge its functions as authorised by the provincial government for a period of 90 days from April 6, 2019, to July 4, 2019.”

Sindh Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah approved the summary regarding the extension to the Rangers’ special authority sent by the Home Ministry.

The grant of extension to the special authority to the Rangers will expire on July 4, 2019.

The Rangers had been given powers under Section-5 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997 according to which Rangers were authorised to conduct a raid and arrest accused.
