PTI moves ECP against Maryam s appointment as PML-N Vice-President

ISLAMABAD – The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) moved the Election Commission of Pakistan on Thursday against Maryam Nawaz’s appointment as a Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) vice-president.

A petition in this regard was filed by parliamentary secretary Farrukh Habib, Maleeka Bokhari, Kanwal Shauzab and Javeria Zafar to de-notify Maryam’s appointment , made a few days ago.

The petition filed by PTI contends that Maryam’s appointment as party’s vice-president was in contradiction with the constitution and law of the land as the PML-N leader is not ineligible to hold any political or public office.

In a major party reshuffle last week, Maryam was made one of the 16 vice-presidents of the party besides Hamza Shehbaz, Abid Sher Ali and others; former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi was appointed as sole senior vice president of PML-N, while Ahsan Iqbal was okayed as general secretary by President Shehbaz Sharif in consultation with supreme leader of PML-N, Nawaz Sharif.

PTI has filed a plea on the basis of the verdict handed out by the Supreme Court in the Panama Papers Case and the conviction in the Avenfiled reference filed by the National Accountability Bureau.
