ISLAMABAD – For Pakistani prisoners at Greece’s Avlona jail, the Eid turned out to be special as the embassy treated them with traditional meal and sweets to celebrate the joyous occasion.
Acting Ambassador in Greece Yawar Abbas, Counselor Immigration Safiullah Jokhio along with embassy staff brought specially-prepared Pakistani food and Mithai for the prisoners, which they enjoyed together at the jail mess, a Foreign Office official informed APP in Islamabad on Friday.
Acting Ambassador exchanged Eid greetings with the prisoners and told them not to consider themselves alone in a foreign country as the Pakistan government was cognizant of their problems.
He assured them of the embassy’s all possible assistance to sort out their issues.
The prisoners expressed pleasure over the special treatment received from the embassy on the eve of Eid and raised slogans of ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ (Long live Pakistan).
In a meeting with Prison’s Police Chief Christoforos Giannakopoulos, the Acting Ambassador exchanged views on providing more facilities to Pakistani inmates particularity related to sports activities.
