SJC serves another notice to Justice Qazi Faez Isa

ISLAMABAD – The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) has issued another show-cause notice to embattled Supreme Court judge Justice Qazi Faez Isa, it emerged on Thursday.

The fresh was served on Tuesday for “writing letters to President Arif Alvi” after a presidential reference was filed against him on allegations pertaining to the assets owned by his family members outside Pakistan.

The SJC – apex regulatory body of judges – in its fresh notice has asked Justice Isa to explain his conduct for writing letters to the president of Pakistan and as per well placed sources, the judge has been given 14 days to submit his reply.

A Lahore-based lawyer Waheed Shahzad Butt had filed a complaint against Justice Isa for violating the code of conduct for members of the judiciary by “writing letters to the president of Pakistan and sharing it with the media”.

The lawyer in his application stated that while writing letters to the president of Pakistan and sharing it with the media, Justice Isa appears to have committed gross misconduct and is liable to be removed upon the recommendation of the SJC in terms of Article-209 of the constitution of Pakistan, Express Tribune reported.

Justice Isa is already facing a reference authorized by President Arif Alvi in May for allegedly not disclosing the foreign properties in wealth statements though the judge contends that his wife and children were not dependent on him.

After the reference was filed, Justice Isa had written a letter to President Alvi seeking clarity regarding the reference against him over allegations of misconduct; copies of the letter were sent to Prime Minister Imran Khan and the apex court as well.

In the second letter to the president, the SC judge again requested a copy of the reference filed against him, expressing his concerns over the alleged media campaign against him.

Meanwhile, Supreme Court Bar Association President, Amanullah Kanrani has issued a press release stating that he has cut short his US trip and would be landing back in Pakistan on Saturday.

‘SCBA president is in touch with lawyers in Pakistan and a strategy would be made after consultation with fellows next week,’ it stated.
