ISLAMABAD – Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani has summoned a session of the Upper Chamber of the Parliament on July 23 on a requisition moved by the opposition.
The senate secretariat, earlier, turned down the opposition’s request for calling a session of the house to present a no-confidence motion against Sanjrani.
At that decision, Senator Sherry Rehman had questioned the dismissal of the request after a span of four days, terming it a delaying tact.
“Delaying senate session is unconstitutional,” she observed.
Opposition’s nominee for Senate chairman Hasil Bizenjo also challenged the senate secretariat’s objection and claimed that the opposition has required numbers to win the no-confidence motion against Sanjrani.
Bizenjo said their motion for removal of the chairman Senate had been admitted and the session had to be called within the days mentioned in the law.
“We think we have succeeded in our vote of no confidence,” he said adding now if any delaying tactic would be used then it would be violation of the Constitution.
He claimed all leaders of opposition parties in the Senate attended the meeting on Thursday and in total 55 Senators attended the meeting.
The upcoming session of the House is poised to be boisterous as the opposition awaits replacing Sadiq Sanjrani who enjoys the support of ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
The session is convened at a time when Prime Minsiter Imran Khan is visiting US alongwith other party members including Senator Faisal Javed.
