Islamabad court grants interim bail to Imran Khan in prohibited funding case

ISLAMABAD – A special court in the country’s federal capital Islamabad has granted interim bail to ousted Pakistani premier Imran Khan till October 31in the prohibited funding case.

PTI Chief appeared in court in person today as federal investigators registered a case against him and other PTI leaders under the Foreign Exchange Act.

Special Judge Raja Asif Mehmood directed the former PM to submit a bail bond of Rs100,000.

In his petition, the PTI chief maintained that the apex investigation agency in questionable exercise and abuse of its powers has made hectic efforts to register a false and fabricated case against him on a serious allegation.

Khan also mentioned in his plea the Election Commission of Pakistan’s report has been challenged in the high court.

Political parties have nefarious motive and agenda behind filing the case against the PTI chairman, the plea stated.

Earlier, Islamabad High Court granted protective bail to PTI chief till October 18.

It all started as the apex investigations agency booked former party leaders including Imran Khan, in the prohibited funding case lodged by FIA Commercial Banking Circle Islamabad.

Khan and other party leaders were accused of violating the Foreign Exchange Act and they were declared as the beneficiaries of suspicious bank accounts.

Officials maintained that Abraaj Group transferred $2.1 million to the bank accounts of Imran Khan-led PTI while the probe started as the country’s top electoral watchdog had declared in its verdict that the party had indeed received illegal funding.
