KARACHI – Solar energy prices in Pakistan continue to fall amid dramatic transformation and ample of supply.
As of late September, the cost per watt for solar panels moved down to Rs30-32 rupees, with a notable decrease from Rs39-40 rupees just a few months ago, in a major reduction from last year’s prices, which were as high as70-80 rupees per watt.
In recent months, there has been increase local supply and a drop in international rates, with some prices now reaching as low as 28 rupees per watt.
Pakistan, a country of over 242 million, imported 8,000 megawatts of solar panels over the past year amid growing demand in the green energy market.
In response to this surge, several companies are planning to establish solar inverter manufacturing plants in Pakistan, aiming to reduce reliance on imports and conserve foreign exchange. With implementation of QR code verification for installations and proper maintenance, solar systems are expected to provide reliable service for many years to come.
