Parents Commit Suicide After Harassment Over Property By Sons

NAGPUR –  In a tragic incident, an elderly couple in the Indian state of Rajasthan ended their lives after reportedly being harassed by their children over property matters.

The heartbreaking event occurred in the city of Nagpur, where the couple, 70-year-old Hazariram and 68-year-old Chawli Devi, took the drastic step of jumping into their home’s water tank. According to Indian media reports, neighbors grew concerned after not seeing the couple for two days and alerted their children. The children, in turn, informed the police, leading to the discovery of their parents’ bodies inside the tank.

A note found on the wall of their home, written by Hazariram, accused their sons and daughters-in-law of persistently harassing them for the family property. In his note, Hazariram expressed the couple’s deep anguish and frustration over the relentless pressure from their children.

Local authorities have taken the bodies into custody and sent them for post-mortem examinations. Police have launched an investigation based on the suicide note, and further action is expected as they look into the claims of harassment.

This tragic case highlights the darker side of family disputes, especially those involving property and inheritance, leading to extreme outcomes in vulnerable households.
