COLOMBO – India defeated Pakistan by 88 runs in the sixth match of the ICC Women’s World Cup.
According to details, the match was played at Colombo’s Premadasa Stadium. Pakistan won the toss, and the captain decided to field first. Batting first, India scored 247 runs, setting Pakistan a target of 248 for victory.
During the toss, the Indian captain displayed unsportsmanlike behavior by refusing to shake hands with the Pakistani captain.
Pakistan’s Innings
Chasing the 248-run target, Pakistan had a poor start, losing three wickets for just 26 runs. The first to fall was Muneeba, who was run out after scoring only 2 runs with the team’s total at 6.
The second wicket fell at 20 when Sidra Shams was dismissed for 6 runs off 24 balls. The third to go was Aliya Riaz at 26 runs.
After that, Sidra Ameen and Natalia Parvaiz steadied the innings, taking the score to 58 by the end of 21 overs. At 95, Natalia was dismissed after scoring 33 runs.
Later, Fatima Sana was out for 2 runs at 102, and Sidra Nawaz followed at 143 after scoring 14. Rameen was the seventh batter dismissed without scoring.
Sidra Ameen played a fine innings of 81 runs but was caught out with the total at 150, tightening India’s grip on the match. Pakistan’s last two wickets fell at 158 and 159 runs.
Pakistan’s innings ended at 159 in 43 overs. Sidra Ameen top-scored with 81. For India, Karanti and Deepti took three wickets each, while Shne claimed two.
India’s Innings
For India, Pratika and Smriti opened the innings and added 48 runs before Pakistan got their first breakthrough.
India’s last batter was dismissed on the final ball of the 50th over with the total at 247. Harleen Deol scored 46, and Richa Ghosh contributed 35. For Pakistan, Dania Baig took 4 wickets, while Sadia Iqbal and Fatima Sana took 2 each; Rameen and Nashra took one apiece.
Pakistan’s captain said the team performed well in the qualifiers and hoped to continue performing better today.
It is worth mentioning that Sri Lanka’s Meteorological Department had forecast intermittent rain in Colombo throughout the day.
