TAXILA (Staff Report) – An Afghan National Army officer has been held by security agencies on suspicion of spying inside Pakistan, officials said on Friday.
Media reports suggested that ANA officer Noor Agha had been using the cover of a vegetable vendor on the street to carry out espionage.
The arrested Afghan operative had been residing in Mashriqabad area of Taxila.
He has been shifted to an undisclosed location for further interrogation.
This is not the first time a serving Afghan army officer has been arrested for allegedly spying on Pakistan.
Earlier, on 26 May security agencies had arrested six suspects belonging to Afghanistan’s intelligence agency for alleged involvement in various acts of terrorism on Pakistani soil.
They were planted in the country through a collaboration between the Afghan intelligence agency National Directorate of Security and Indian intelligence RAW and later confessed to killing more than 40 Pakistanis.
Earlier, in April an officer of the Afghan intelligence agency was arrested inside Pakistani territory near the Chaman border crossing in Balochistan.
