LHC orders Royal Palm Golf and Country Club to resume partial operation

LAHORE – The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday allowed management of a Royal Palm Golf and Country Club to partially resume operations until September.

LHC judge Justice Sham Mehmood Mirza heard the plea filed by Barrister Ali Zafar. The petitioner informed the court that Pakistan Railways had illegally sealed the property despite a court injunction against such action.

The court ordered the administration to issue salaries of club’s employees ahead of Eidul Fitr.

The Railways counsel said that the club’s administration had not made due payments despite several legal notices, which had prompted the department to seal it.

The court adjourned the hearing of the case until September 1.

On Friday, Pakistan Railways (PR) management sealed the Royal Palm Club ostensibly in a bid to recover Rs 2.16 billion in outstanding dues.

The railway management also terminated the lease contract signed in 2001 with Mainland Husnain Pakistan Limited (MHPL), which Railway Minister Khwaja Saad Rafiq said had been controversial.
