German paper confirms Maryam Nawaz s links with offshore firm Minerva Financial Services

LAHORE – A German newspaper has confirmed Maryam Nawaz’s links with an offshore firm called Minerva Financial Services.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has been trying to establish that Maryam Nawaz, and not her brother Hussain Nawaz as claimed by the party earlier, was the beneficial owner of Minerva which held Nescoll Limited and Nielson Enterprises Limited — the owners of the four London flats.

The documents also show a xerox copy of Maryam Nawaz’s passport.

PTI General Secretary Jehangir Tareen had led the party’s presentation of the ‘evidence’ it has gathered on the case, with a focus on an alleged exchange of emails between Mossack Fonseca and Minerva Trust & Corporate Services Ltd.

Khan said that a letter dispatched by a company to Nescol and Nielson, declared daughter of Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz the owner.

He said that relevant documents and a copy of Maryam’s passport was attached with the letter.

He said that Maryam Nawaz was not the trustee but was a beneficiary owner of the companies and Mayfair flats were also in fact owned by her. Imran said that Maryam claims that she lived with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, which means that she was a dependent of Nawaz Sharif, making all this wealth not hers but Nawaz Sharif’s.

Justice Asif Saeed Khosa, who was heading the larger bench hearing the case, had also cautioned the Sharif lawyers that if they were unable to establish ownership of Minerva Financial Services Limited, the court would have to ‘imagine’ that what Pakistan PTI lawyers claim is true.
