KARACHI – A police officer brought explosive material to the anti-terrorism court in Karachi on Monday.
According to reports, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Karachi police Anayat Ullah Naseer brought cracker bombs and other explosive material to anti-terrorism court in a ghee tin ignoring any protective measures.
Fortunately, no unforoltunate incident happened, but the negligence raised eyebrows of security experts.
On the other hand, Anayat claimed that there was no place to keep the case property in the anti-corruption court so it had to be brought from the city court in much the same way.
Detailing the deplorable state of affairs, he went on and maintained that explosive material was shifted to FSL Islamabad through the same ghee tins.
‘Investigation officers face much difficulty while transporting case property and explosive material. Non-availability of store room in Anti-terrorism court also causes problems’ said Anayat Ullah.
This is not the first time a security official paid no attention to safety measures while handling explosive material, In April last year, a hand grenade exploded inside courtroom in Karachi’s Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) after a judge asked a police constable if he knew how grenades worked.
The constable, instead of explaining his expertise in weapons and grenade handling to the judge, opted to demonstrate practically by promptly pulling out the pin from the grenade.
The blast took place while hearing of a case was underway in courtroom-III. Two policemen and a court clerk were among injured and taken to a nearby hospital for first aid. Court’s proceeding was briefly suspended as a result.
According to media reports, the grenade in question was a locally developed bomb which was brought to the courtroom by Investigation Officer Abid Ali as evidence. The bomb was, reportedly, not defused before production in the court.
