DUBAI – Pakistan one-day international captain Azhar Ali has been suspended for one match and fined 40 percent of his match fee for the team’s slow over-rate in Thursday’s game against Australia.
According to ICC, Pakistan were ruled to be two overs short of their target during the 57-run loss in the fifth and final match of the series in Adelaide.
Jeff Crowe of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees imposed the suspension on the Pakistani skipper.
It was the 31-year-old Azhar’s second slow over-rate offence in the last 12 months. Azhar was also sanctioned during a test match against New Zealand in Auckland on Jan 31 last year.
With the suspension, Azhar would be missing the next 50-over match against West Indies in April.
In accordance with Article 2.5.1 and Appendix 2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Players Support Personnel, which deals with minor over-rate offences, players are fined 10 per cent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time, with the captain fined double that amount.
Apart from fine and suspension, Green Shirts lost the series 4-1.
