LAHORE – Syed Ahmed Mobin, known as a brave and competent police officer, was martyred in Lahore blast on Monday, leaving the whole nation in mourning.
“DIG Mobin played a key role in counter-terrorism operations in Balochistan and Punjab,” said a senior police official.
A screenshot of his latest Facebook status made rounds on social media, in which he said, “Kafir hun, Sar Phera Hun, Mujy Mar Dejey”.
He was born and raised in Quetta, completing his early education at Mastung Cadet College. His father, Dr Karrar Zaidi was a paediatrician.
After serving in the Pakistan Army, he joined the police service in November 1996 and belonged to the 24th Common of the Civil Services of Pakistan. His first posting was Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Lahore Cantt.
During his tenure in the Pakistan Army, Captain (r) Mobin participated in Karachi operation as an officer of Sindh Rangers during the 1990s. He initially served in Field Intelligence Team (FIT) of Sindh Rangers and then joined Filed Security (FS) unit of Sindh Rangers. During an operation, he was injured receiving bullet wounds. His code name during Karachi operation was Captain Kakar.
Known for his welfare work, Captain (retd) Mobin was a kind-hearted police officer. He was very popular among police troops and was well respected among the lower staff of the department due to his friendly attitude towards the force. He was promoted to the rank of DIG last year.
Captain (retd) Syed Ahmed Mobin leaves behind a wife, three daughters and a son. He only had an elder sister.
